We believe that the foundation of a strong lab culture lies in the shared values of its members. With this idea, we initiated a biannual lab breakfast in January 2024. The second lab value biannual meeting was held during the Shin Lab Symposium 2024 in August; we decided to keep all values and add two additional values, openness and resilience, to our list.
This event serves as a dedicated forum for our team to express and align on the core principles that define us individually and as a team. It marked the beginning of our concerted effort to cultivate a lab culture that reflects our own mutual goals and values.
Respect
Fostering an atmosphere where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their role, background, or experience. We believe that it ensures a welcoming and inclusive environment and is foundation for solving many challenges in the lab environment.
Collaboration
Emphasizing teamwork and the sharing of knowledge and resources to achieve common goals, while empowering each other rather than competing.
Happiness
Often, research is challenging. We would like to encourage a positive lab environment that supports the well-being and satisfaction of individual lab members.
Communication
Prioritizing clear, open, and honest communication to facilitate effective collaboration, problem-solving, and the exchange of ideas.
Support
Offering support not just in professional development, but also in personal growth and challenges, we would like to foster a caring and empathetic community.
Passion
Inspiring enthusiasm and dedication toward the work and the lab’s mission, we aim to motivate each other to pursue excellence as a team.
Openness and Resilence
Two additional values were added in our second biannual meeting in 2024. Descriptions of this value will be available soon!
Integrity
Upholding the highest ethical standards in all research and interactions, ensuring reliability and reproducibility. We aim to provide a nurturing environment where integrity is valued, and lab members are appropriately trained.
Learning and Growth
We aim to mentor trainees into rigorous scientists regardless of their stages of research experience. We are committed to continuous learning and improvement, encourage curiosity, and provide opportunities for personal and professional development.
